In the case of one Zorro reboot, Antonio Banderas knows exactly who he wants to take on the role: Tom Holland.
Promoting in a recent interview Puss in Boots: The Last WishBanderas said without hesitation that he would hand over the title to Holland if there was one redo.
“I did Not charted with him, and he’s so energetic and fun, and he’s got a spark too,’ Banderas told ComicBook. “Why not?”
Banderas explained that he would like to return to the franchise in another movie to pass the mask on to Holland, in the same way Anthony Hopkins did for him in 1998’s Zorro’s mask. In the film, Hopkins’ Don Diego de la Vega passed the torch to Banderas’ Alejandro Murrieta.
“I would consider that possibility, why not?” Banderas said when asked to return for a new project in the franchise. “I said something like that to someone. I said, ‘If they called me to do Zorro, I’d do what Anthony Hopkins did in the first one [for] me, [which is] pass the torch to someone else.’”
This isn’t the first time the actor has talked about a possible return to the mask. Banderas told ComicBook he talked to Quentin Tarantino about a possible crossover between Zorro and Django, Jamie Foxx’s character in Tarantino’s Django unleashed.
“He just came up to me and I was like, ‘In your hands? Yes, man!’ Because Quentin just has the nature to do those kinds of movies and give them quality,” he explained. doing very interesting we’ve never worked together but it would be great because of him, because of Jamie Foxx and because of [playing] Zorro again when he’s a little older. It would be fantastic and funny and crazy.”
