DC and Warner Bros.’ Black Adam continues to top the weekend box office in its third weekend with an expected gross of $17 million from 3,985 theaters for a domestic total of at least $136 million through Sunday. Worldwide, the photo will exceed $300 million.
With Dwayne Johnson, Black Adam has had the advantage of facing little competition. That all changes next weekend when Marvel and Disney’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever launches in movie theaters around the world. in your own country, Wakanda forever follows to debut to $175 million or more.
Black Adam – which is only the third film of 2022 to win the box office crown for three consecutive weekends – has no qualms about beating the weekend’s only new wide-ranging offering, the Japanese anime film One Piece Film: Red.
Red looks set to open in second place with about $10 million at 2,410 locations, in line with expectations. Crunchyroll, a division of Sony, deals with One Piece Film: Red in Crunchyroll’s recent hit in the US Demon Slayer: Mugen Train opened in late April 2022 to a much larger $21 million domestically.
One Piece Film: Red earned an A CinemaScore from the audience, with men making up 76 percent of Friday ticket buyers. In terms of age, a whopping 75 percent of the audience was between 18 and 34 years old.
Universal’s Romantic Comedy Ticket to paradiseParamount’s horror photo Smile and Lionsgate’s other horror offerings Prey for the devil is expected to complete the top five.
Estimates for the entire weekend will be released Sunday morning.
