Kanye Ye West has been suspended from Twitter, the suspension comes after the rapper tweeted a now-deleted post containing a swastika on Thursday night.
After a chaotic day when Ye appeared on Alex Jones’ infowars show and repeatedly saying he liked Adolf Hitler, the rapper posted a series of controversial tweets, including alleged text messages between himself and Twitter CEO Elon Musk. Among the tweets, which included praise and support for Balenciaga following the recent backlash against the company, Ye posted a photo of a swastika merged with a Star of David. Twitter removed the offending post and Ye’s tweet storm came to an abrupt end.
Thinking he could face suspension, Ye also tweeted an unflattering photo of Musk being hosed down on a yacht by Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel. Emanuel had previously called for a Hollywood-led boycott of Ye after he made a series of anti-Semitic remarks that eventually led brands like Adidas and Balenciaga to cut ties with the rapper.
On Truth Social, Ye’s verified account posted another photo of his text interaction with Musk, as well as a screenshot showing that he was locked out of his account for 12 hours.
Musk, a self-proclaimed free speech absolutist, confirmed that Ye was suspended, first responding “This is fine” to the unflattering photo, but “this is not” to the now-deleted swastika tweet.
After a Twitter user tweeted to Musk to “Fix Kanye, please,” the CEO responded, “I did my best. Nevertheless, he again violated our rule against inciting violence. Account will be suspended.”
In another reply, Musk tweeted, “Just clarifying that his account is being suspended for inciting violence, not an unflattering photo of me being hosed down by Ari. Honestly, I found those pictures helpful motivation to lose weight!
Doubling down, Musk tweeted the acronym “FAFO,” which means poke around and find out.
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to a Twitter representative for comment, but that employee is no longer with the company.
Ye was reinstated on Twitter only recently, following Musk’s $44 billion takeover of the company and a pledge to lift the suspensions of prominent accounts, including the rapper, former President Donald Trump and Jordan Peterson. In October, Ye’s initial suspension came after he tweeted that he was going “death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE”.
“I’m a little sleepy tonight, but when I wake up, I’m going to Death Con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE,” he wrote. “The funny thing is that I can’t actually be anti-Semitic, because black people are actually Jewish too. You played with me and tried to blacken everyone who opposes your agenda.”
