Peacock debuted in the Nielsen streaming rankings with the opening of Halloween ends. Ryan Murphy’s The viewer opened at number 1 on the map, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power got a bump in the week of the season finale.
Halloween ends, the 13th in the long-running franchise, was the best feature film — and the eighth most-watched title overall — for the week of October 10-16. It had 717 million minutes of watch time in the three days after its October 14 release at Peacock’s premium tiers. It’s the first title from the NBCUniversal streaming service (which is significantly smaller in the United States than Netflix, HBO Max, and Amazon’s Prime Video) to top Nielsen’s rankings.
The viewer accumulated 2.36 billion minutes of viewing minutes after its October 13 debut, launching a new Murphy-produced series (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) after three weeks from first place. Netflix renewed the thriller for a second season on Monday. Sample slipped to third among the original series with 1.11 billion minutes.
Between the two Murphy shows was The rings of power, which grew 15 percent in the week of the season finale to 1.14 billion watch minutes. The show ended its seven-week run with 7.52 billion views, making it Prime Video’s top US series since the advent of Nielsen’s streaming charts.
One week before the season finale, House of the Dragon increased to 960 million minutes on HBO Max, from 921 million a week earlier. (Streaming figures do not include showing on HBO’s cable channels.)
Nielsen’s streaming ratings are for viewing on TV sets only and not for minutes viewed on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure the American audience, not those in other countries. The top streaming titles for October 10-16 are listed below.
