The start of the World Series and the annual “Treehouse of Horror” episode of The Simpsons gave Fox a bigger than usual presence in Nielsen’s seven-day ratings.
CBS’ NCIS, meanwhile, became the first entertainment show of the 2022-23 season to break the 10 million viewer mark with a week of delayed viewing. Only sports broadcasts and some post-NFL episodes of 60 minutes had done this in the past five weeks.
Fox had five of the top nine primetime network broadcasts among adults 18-49 for October 24-30, with the first two World Series Games (2.9 and 2.4 ratings), The Simpsons (1.5), 911 (1.1) and The masked singer (1.0). The Simpsons managed to keep its season high in the major ad demographics, achieving the best total viewership for another season (4.4 million).
The World Series games drew 11.57 million and 10.87 million viewers to finish second and third behind NBC’s Football on Sunday evening (19.74 million viewers), which was the clear No. 1 of the week. It also led the 18-49 demo with a rating of 5.4. As usual, all three sports broadcasts got almost all of their audience the night they aired.
NCIS set a season-high viewership for the second week in a row, reaching 10.18 million viewers after seven days. The long-running drama has the three biggest seven-day viewership of the season among the entertainment programs on the networks. It was one of three shows with at least 3 million viewers in seven days, a growth of 3.21 million people. Colleague CBS veteran Blue blood (+3.66 million, ending with 9.35 million) and ABCs the newbie (+3.01 million for a season high of 6.53 million in total) are the others.
CBS’ FBI franchise and NBCs Chicago shows, which are usually top 10 entrants on the delayed viewing lists, were in reruns for the week and therefore are not included in the seven-day rankings.
Seven-day Nielsen rating totals exclude streaming, which accounts for a significant portion of the total entertainment program audience. The top 10 broadcasts (including ties) in the seven-day ratings for October 24-30 are below.
