Windows 10 KB5026361 is now coming to production channel devices with many bug fixes. This is a mandatory Patch Tuesday update and will be rolled out through Windows Update, or you can also download the .msu package. Microsoft has published direct download links for Windows 10 KB5026361 offline installers.
Windows 10KB5026361 is a mandatory security update, which means it will be downloaded and installed automatically at some point. You cannot pause and postpone updates for more than a month. It’s worth noting that this is a “security update,” meaning it won’t make major changes to the operating system. However, there are several quality improvements.
For example, Microsoft is introducing a new feature that lets you change the display language or regional language of your Microsoft account right from Settings. In addition to this tweak, several bug fixes are also included in the update. For example, Microsoft fixed an issue that broke Edge IT mode.
A bug where Windows 10’s “News and Interests” feature was not working has been fixed in the update.
As mentioned at the beginning, the Windows 10 May 2023 Update will be rolled out through Windows Update like any other update. You can download it by going to Institutions > Updates and security > WindowsUpdate. Click the “Check for updates” button on the Windows Update page.
If you’re using Windows 11, you get KB5026372 with identical bug fixes, but with some notable differences.

KB5026361 (Build 19045.2965) Full changelog
One of the most significant updates is that the company has changed the firewall settings, allowing users to configure application pool rules for better security.
The update also resolves an issue where password expiration notifications were inappropriately sent to users, particularly in cases where “Smart card is required for interactive login” is enabled.
Another issue that has been fixed is that the LSASS (Local Security Authority Subsystem Service) process quits unexpectedly, causing a system reboot.

The May 2023 Update also resolves an issue that affects the display of protected content when using taskbar thumbnail Live Preview and provisioning packs that cannot be applied under certain conditions that require elevation.
In addition, the update resolves a printing issue experienced by Mobile Device Management (MDM) customers that was caused by an exception.
The update also addresses issues with logging into Windows Hello for Business using a PIN, resetting the keyboard layout to the system default in certain console sessions, and the Microsoft Edge WebView2 causing an infinite loop during the process restart.
Other fixes include addressing issues with the Unified Write Filter (UWF), the Resilient File System (ReFS), MySQL commands on Windows Xenon containers, SMB Direct on systems with multi-byte character sets, apps using DirectX on older Intel graphics drivers and the Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS).
