Windows 11 KB5022303 is now available for download on PCs running version 22H2 and comes with a small set of bug fixes. That’s because Microsoft paused optional updates due to the holiday season in the west. In addition to Windows Update, Microsoft has also published direct download links for Windows 11 KB5022303 offline installers.
KB5022303 is primarily a security update and does not contain any new features or major noticeable changes. However, it’s worth noting that all Patch Tuesday updates contain changes from the previous preview and optional updates. If you skipped last month’s updates, get those fixes today.
Microsoft has also confirmed that the January 2023 update addresses an issue causing the 0xc000021a Blue Screen of Death error. This issue broke some devices and users reported that they couldn’t even boot to the desktop.

Windows 11 KB5022303 (Build 22622.1105) major changelog
In a post on the Feedback Hubone of the affected users documented the problem with Windows 11.
According to the post, Windows 11 updates installed successfully, but after the first reboot, a Blue Screen of Death error popped up. A second reboot invited another BSOD and automatic repair did not fix the problem.
“Restoring DISM pending actions didn’t work. We were eventually able to boot by disabling driver signature enforcement through the recovery environment’s boot options. Booted to the desktop and got a message that system restore completed successfully (also got a message that EarTrumpet failed to start). Every time I reboot my machine the BSOD occurs again, “one of the users noticed.
Thankfully, Microsoft has finally fixed BSODs with the latest Windows 11 update.
Windows 11 Build 22621.1105 or 22622.1105 also fixed an issue affecting a feature called “Local Session Manager (LSM)”. An operating system bug allowed users who did not have administrative privileges to perform actions that required special privileges available only to the administrators.
Fixed another bug where apps could not connect to databases when using Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) SQL Server Driver (sqlsrv32.dll). According to the company, the bug resulted in connection errors. Some users also received error messages within the application.
If you skipped the December patch, you’ll get several additional improvements, including OneDrive “storage warnings” on the Systems page in the Settings app. Alerts appear only when OneDrive approaches the storage limit, and links are highlighted below the alert to help you manage your storage and purchase additional storage.
You can also view the total storage space on the Accounts page in the Settings app. Similarly, Microsoft fixed an issue that caused performance issues with File Explorer, including a bug where the file manager stopped responding to the user.
Known issues in build 22622.1105 for Windows 11
Microsoft is aware of at least two known issues in the update. One of the bugs affects provisioning packages on Windows 11. According to the release notes, provisioning packages may not work as expected, but it’s not something typically used by home users, so this issue isn’t a major issue.
Provisioning packages are .PPKG files commonly used in schools or businesses that broke in the last update. Microsoft says that out of the box experience may not complete and Windows is partially configured if you use provisioning packages to perform Windows installations.
Microsoft officials added that “devices used by consumers in the home or small office” are not affected in most cases.
The second bug causes large file transfers to take longer than expected. This can happen when the user tries to copy large files of several gigabytes (GB) and is more noticeable when you try to copy files from a network share through Server Message Block (SMB). However, copying local files is also affected.
There is a workaround for this problem, but it requires advanced steps that many users are not familiar with. To resolve the issue, Microsoft recommends using copy tools that do not have cache management.
Microsoft is working on a fix for both issues and an update will be released soon.
