Mind-blowing Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (Motive, The Neon Demon) returns to its roots for: Copenhagen Cowboyhis very first series for Netflix.
Described as a “thrill-inducing, neon-drenched noir series,” the six-part series stars Angela Bundalovic, of Netflix’s Danish hit The rainas Miu, a young heroine who travels through the criminal underworld of Copenhagen.
Refn made a name for himself with his pusher trilogy of Danish crime films, introducing the world to future star Mads Mikkelsen.
Zlatko Buric, who plays Serbian local drug lord Milo in all three pusher movies, re-teams with Refn for Copenhagen Cowboy. Refn’s daughter, the actor Lola Corfixen, stars with Andreas Lykke Jørgensen, Jason Hendil-Forssell, Li Ii Zhang, Dragana Milutinovic, Mikael Bertelsen and Mads Brügger.
Sara Isabella Jønsson, Johanne Algren and Mona Masri co-wrote the series.
“Of Copenhagen CowboyI return to my past to shape my future by creating a series, an extension of my constantly evolving alter-egos, now in the form of my young heroine, Miu,” Refn said, pointing out that the series is not his last will be for Netflix: “Working with Netflix and bringing this show to life has been an absolutely amazing experience on all levels. I consider them not only my partners with many future adventures, but also my friends. The new term was born: Netflix Winding Refn.”
Refn’s last project was the LA set noir series Too old to die young,with Miles Teller, for Amazon Prime.
Copenhagen CowboyProduced by Lene Børglum and Christina Erritzøe for Refn’s NWR Originals, it has completed shooting in Denmark and will launch worldwide on Netflix later this year.
