Matt Smith admits he wondered if HBO’s highly anticipated series House of the Dragon is a bit steamier than necessary.
in a new one interview with Brits rolling stonethe actor, who plays Prince Daemon Targaryen, discussed the sex scenes in the Game of Thrones prequel series based on parts of George RR Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood. HBO’s Emmy-winning throneswhich was signed in May 2019 after eight highly rated seasons, has previously sparked debate about its own sexualized content.
“You find yourself asking yourself, ‘Do we need? another sex scene?’” Smith said about House of the Dragon, premiering August 21. “And they say, ‘Yes, we do.’ I think you should ask yourself, ‘What are you doing? Do you represent the books, or do you dilute the books to represent the time? [we’re living in]?’ And I actually think it’s your job to present the books truthfully and honestly, as they are written.”
Smith, who said he had read some, but not all, of the lengthy pieces Fire & Blood, was asked if his character has quite a few sexy scenes. “Yeah – a little too much, if you ask me,” the doctor who replied alum with a laugh.
During the interview, Smith also discussed the reception of his recent film morbiusthe big-screen take on the Marvel comic antihero that hit theaters in April and currently has a 16 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Yeah, he was thrown under the bus,” he said of the Jared Leto movie. “But you just have to be able to deal with it. What else are you going to do? It’s a movie, at the end of the day; we don’t save lives. For whatever reason, it didn’t quite work out and… It is what it is.”
