Following Queen Elizabeth’s death, Prince Harry sent a heartfelt statement in her honor. In it, he revealed a tender glimpse at the final moments his children, 1-year-old Lilibet and 3-year-old Archie, had with their great-grandmother.
“I am eternally grateful for all our first meetings – from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my wonderful wife and hugged your cherished great-grandchildren,” he wrote. “I treasure these days spent with you, as well as the many other great moments in between.”
Queen Elizabeth saw Lilibet for the first time in June during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations. “…Seeing Lilibet turns one brightened her day,” a source told US Weekly at the time. “She thinks they’re cute and has given Lili and Archie gifts.” That trip also provided Lilibet with the opportunity to see her grandfather, Prince Charles, for the first time.
“Of course, the prince hasn’t seen his grandson Archie in a while, so it was very, very lovely to have some time with him,” a source told Newsweek. “He hadn’t met Lilibet, his granddaughter, so meeting her for the first time was really emotional and lovely.” “What grandmother wouldn’t think that was a terrific day all around?” I say without hesitation.
Lilibet had already met her great-grandmother remotely during a family Zoom call. In a June interview, Prince Harry told James Corden that they had connected with the Queen digitally so she could see the child. She also noticed Archie “running around” in the background.
It appears that having his grandmother spend time with his children was very important to Prince Harry. The monarch has been outspoken about his relationship with Queen Elizabeth, emphasizing how important she was to him in his speech after her death. He referred to her as “Granny.”
